Internships

An internship gives you experience in your field, helps you apply what you learn, and builds career skills. Use the resources below to find an opportunity, get support, and complete the approval process. Start early. Requirements and deadlines apply.

Before You Begin

Internships may be completed on campus or off campus and must be approved through Career Services. Before you begin, make sure you meet the requirements and note the application deadline.

Eligibility

To complete an internship, students must:

  • Complete at least 60 total credits, including 8 credits in their field of study.
  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 CGPA in the semester before the internship.
  • Be in good financial, Title IX, and Honor Code standing before, during, and after the internship.

Additional requirements may apply by department. Review your department’s internship requirements or meet with your internship coordinator:

Dates and Deadlines

Submit your offer letter, MOU, and learning objectives 15 business days before the end of the semester before your internship. If you are applying for an internship scholarship, submit them 25 business days in advance. If your offer letter start date comes sooner, that date is your deadline.

For example, the semester before a summer internship is the spring semester.

Internship Travel Guidelines

If you are traveling for your internship:

  • Depart campus the week after the current semester ends.
  • Return to campus the week before the next semester begins.
  • Travel outside these timeframes requires approval from your program dean.

On-Campus Internships

Some BYU–Hawaii departments offer on-campus internships. These use the regular student employee hiring process and still require Career Services approval. Learn about on-campus internships.
